Two fake terror scares in NYC on Sunday. Humiliation included for free!
Cops in riot gear handcuffed a group of apparently harmless South Asian-looking men with British accents after a jittery tour bus worker reported they seemed suspicious.
The men were forced to kneel on the sidewalk, with their hands bound behind their backs, between 50th and 51st Sts. in front of the Winter Garden theater on a sunny summer Sunday with the city packed with tourists.
Well, serves them right for carrying backpacks and being asian and being on vacation and being in New York and…oh, fuck it.
Then, the lovely news that the man shot dead in London tube had no ties to terror. Let’s see: you’re in a foreign country, don’t speak the language well, and a bunch of guys with guns start yelling at you and chasing you. Me? Well, why I’d just stand there and ask them politely what I could do for them.
I suppose the exception to this would be if you do actually speak English well and understand how many “suspects” have been rounded up, shipped off to the great American Gulag not to be heard from until years of torture later. Yeah. I’d wait around for that too.
Wonderful environment of understanding and cooperation we’ve managed to create here in the free West, isn’t it?
In other news of the incompetent and corrupt: the WH has decided that the papers SCOTUS nominee Roberts wrote during two Republican administrations are “private,” and hence none of our fucking business (despite the fact that the man may well be on the high court for 30 years) and it turns out that the Attorney General Gonzales (then deputy AG) told Andrew Card (WH Chief of Staff) that the AG’s office had appointed a special prosecutor in the Plame leak 12 hours before Gonzales “remembered” to say to them not to the WH, “oh, yeah, and he may want to look at any relevant documents so, uh, you know, don’t destroy any evidence.” That’s the team spirit!
